PHARMACY UPDATE # 1

I deleted my "Chronicles of a Would-Be Pharmacist." I never posted there anyway. Well, okay, I did 3x. But that was it. From now on, anything Pharmacy related will have the title "Pharmacy Update" and will be labeled pharmacy. I just want to keep things simple.

Anyway, so going back to school will be pretty expensive. The UCSF tuition fee (though it's a State School) is close to the tuition fees of private schools already. It's annoying. Before, they can boast of costing half as much as private schools. =( I should have gone back to school sooner. But oh well!

So, I have to apply for financial aid (this is actually more of student loans). And to do that, I have to fill out at least 4 LOOOONG forms. It's so annoying! I did my 3rd form recently and it took me 4 freaking hours to do it. Sorry, I had to rant. Who would have known that they'd ask so many questions and ... ugh! I don't even want to talk about it.

I still have one more form left. I haven't even looked at it. I didn't want to considering all the trouble I had to go through to fill up the 3rd one.

So, that was one!

#2 (I'm back to listing) I met a future classmate today. She works at UCSF too and she and I met for coffee. It's nice to know someone already, even before school starts. =)

#3 We're having a get together (about a dozen of us) on June 16th! My future classmates can't wait to meet each other, we're already meeting 2 months before school starts. Hehe.

#4 Apparently, a week prior to school starting, our class will go on a camping trip. That should be interesting!

#5 I thought (I don't know why I thought this) my days in class will be short. For some reason, I was led to believe that classes will only go from 8 am to 2 pm (at the latest). I looked at the P1 schedule last year (they don't have our schedule up yet) and it's 8 to 4 every day! Darn! It's like I am working full-time and then I'll go to school part time at night. How do they expect us to have time for studying and extra-curricular activities. I'm now officially dreading starting school again. Bummer!

7 RANDOM THINGS

I was tagged by Harbie. And now, I have to tag Kuya Junby and Mitzi (since Harbie tagged everyone else already ... hehe)

This is different from the 25 Random Facts that I did almost a year and a half ago.

#1) I love Pride and Prejudice - the book and all the adaptations that I was fortunate enough to have seen (1940 Laurence Olivier, 1995 Colin Firth, and 2005 Keira Knightley). Although it was the 1995 version that's truest to the book, there were good things in the other two adaptations enough to like them.

#2) I have a thing for good-looking (they don't have to be gorgeous) British actors with great speaking voices. That's why I love

a) Ben Miles (he's not that great-looking but he has great speaking voice),
b) Ioan Gruffudd (If anyone with his kind of voice told me, "If you represent what heaven is, then take me there" in that accent, I would have immediately responded, "Come on! I'll take you")
c) Matthew Macfadyen of the most recent adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. (It was the "No, thank you!" part that got me!)

#3) As seen above, I have a thing for numbered lists. Sometimes, in my emails, when I want to make several points, I list them down complete with numbers. Just recently a friend commented on it with, "YOU EVEN PUT NUMBERS!" It's the scientist in me, I suppose

#4) I have a 4 am flight out of Seattle the day after Abby's marathon. Darn Expedia! It was supposed to be a 7 am flight. But they suddenly switched it and just informed me now! I don't know what to do. Any idea, guys?

#5) I love cookie dough ice cream. Not cookies and cream. Cookie dough!

#6) I just presented my first ever and final lab meeting in the whole 5 years that I worked in this lab. As a "staff research associate" I never had to present anything, since the data directly goes to the post doctoral fellow or graduate student who needs it. And they present the data. But since the graduate student wasn't here when I showed our big boss the data yesterday, she asked me to present. It was the quickest presentation I ever did. Less than 5 minutes (and that's complete with powerpoint slides!)

#7) I'm quitting my job in August 2. The very next day I fly away ... to where? ... abangan. =)

SCHIZO

How do you guys like my new color scheme? Totally out of sync, right? No color coordination, right? Well, it reflects my schizophrenic personality. It suits me. I like it. =)

WONDERS OF TECHNOLOGY

I used to like tinkering with computer programs a lot. But as I grew older, I found it too tedious. So, I don't bother much with computers ... unless I learn something interesting.

Kuya Junby (hi!) would always edit his photos using some sort of software. I had with me an old version of Adobe Photoshop for at least 3 years now and never really used it that much except to resize my photos for them to fit in friendster. =P But having seen Kuya Junby tinker with a photo-editing software to make backgrounds black and white while leaving the people in color, I decided to put to good use my Photoshop and edit one particular picture I like calling "Vanity". It's in quotation marks because the word can mean two things as it pertains to the picture. Check the it out and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Btw, thanks Kuya Junby! If I didn't see you do this, I would never ever in my wildest dream think of attempting to edit my photos this way.

WHEE WII

Certainly, being an only child has its perks. But it also has its disadvantages. One of them is the impracticality of buying a Nintendo Wii. Since I'd be the only one playing it, it won't be at all fun.

I've always wanted to have a Wii or even just a chance to play it. My goddaughter, Anna, who's 10 years old (Yup! I'm old), has one. But, whenever she brings it to our family gatherings, only the kids below 10 years of age get to play it.

But thankfully, my cousin, Czarmaine (who's a little over a year younger than I am) bought one. It's not impractical for her family because she has 2 other brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, and a boyfriend who would play it at the very least every week.

We went to my grandparents' house this weekend to celebrate Mother's Day. It's 2 hours away from where we live. And as usual, the kids got bored after having their stomachs filled with Chinese take-out (of course, the kids nor the fathers did not cook for the special moms). Some went to the park to play baseball. The teenagers went to the mall to shop. What did the twenty-somethings do? We went to Czarmaine's house (5 minutes from our grandparents') and played Wii.

It was my first time. Yup. I was a Wii virgin. =P And I have to say, it was so much fun! I played Wii Sports - mainly boxing, 'coz I suck at tennis. And it was tiring. I'm not a strategic boxer. I just throw punches wherever. I don't have foot work (not that it matters). I don't move much to avoid my opponent's jabs. I just keep on punching - HARD (at the air, of course). And while I had so much fun punching my aggressions out, I was tired after a while. My breathing was labored (I was asthmatic as a child) and I had to rest for a looong while.

And you know what? NOW, my shoulders and arms are sore. I can't even shift the gear of the car with my right hand nor lift heavy items off the floor. Hehe. It was a good workout though.
